Looking for Players
Here is a short introduction for PCC members who may be new to the Low Cup competition or have not paid much attention to it.
The Low Cup is a traditional, friendly inter-club curling competition held among Upper Ottawa Valley clubs, including Pembroke, Deep River, Arnprior, and Renfrew. It typically runs from October to March and features senior curlers from these clubs who compete in the four rinks throughout the season. Mainly senior men form the teams but women have played. The event was originally established in 1909, when the Thomas A. Low Cup trophy was donated as a prize for a double rink challenge among the Valley clubs and is one of the longest-standing curling competitions in Renfrew County, rooted in early 20th-century community curling traditions
The competition employs a double rink format, where two teams from each club compete for points in a series of matches, encouraging camaraderie and spirited competition. The format involves two 8 end games at 10:00 a.m and 1:00 p.m with a lunch hosted by the club where the games are played. A small fee is collected to cover the cost of the lunch.
If you are interested in playing, please talk to Rick Lomore or any of the senior members who have participated in the past. We are always looking for new players to introduce to this friendly rivalry between Valley clubs.
